Competitive Working Environment

Extremely competitive working environment cause office politics. This is because when people live in a competitive environment, they may use all of their artifice to stay alive. Everyone in the organization is their competitors and they must do something that outstanding to get the upper level’s attention. Everyone cannot trust in each other, every single person do their work individually and do not share their ideas. Actually, everyone in an organization is a member of a production team. So, if a team want to be highly productive and work excellent, all team members should be work together. Sometimes it might not that easy to work well as if colleagues are lacking of trust into each other. There might form a “gang” and finally there are two or more group fighting instead of discussing to work well. Office politics occurs as all of the organization is playing their own game in surviving in the corporate.

      

            There is a research showing that the macro environment of political intrigues is very common in Nigeria. Many of them trust that poverty is the most direct reason that office politics prevalent in Nigeria.(Muo, 2012) Poverty makes the working environment in competitive and stress because everyone desperate to stay alive in cruel reality. All of them need a work for their livelihood and it is better that they are in a high position in an organization. Then, this brings residents in Nigeria involve in office politics. Extremely competitive working environment in Nigeria provides a bad situation to the workers as everyone cannot feel belongs and comfortable when they are working. This phenomenon not only happens in Nigeria but wherever there is an economic hardship.

      

People who are in competitive working environment where make them feel stress are normally having a bad relationship between colleagues and subordinates. Everyone in the organization play office politics that make sure they have a favor to do what they want or stay in the office. No matter is people choose to play office politics or office politics is a phenomenon that must be in an organization, there must be a reason for this happens. Regarding to the research that did in Nigeria, competitive working environment and poverty of a country play an important role as these lead to office politics.
