Trust is a very fragile and abstract thing. It defined as
a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or
something. Trust is very important between colleagues and subordinates. As they
need to collaborate and work together every day to improve their ideas.
We trust a person because we know that he or she won’t do something to harm and betray us. We need their helps sometimes, so we rely on them. Moreover, to earn people’s trust is by doing the best to prove them.

As I just mentioned, trust is a very fragile thing. Once broken, it consider sold. To re-earn a trust back from the person is difficult. Broken trust can take years, even decades to repair. It's a very sensitive and even awkward for the two people involved. There is where office politics start. Without trust, colleagues and subordinates will doubt on each other’s working abilities. Doubting will make you worry, and worry lead to stress.
Lacking of trust will reduce the communication between co-workers and subordinates. Communication is such an important skill to understand each other’s thinking and feeling.
